Planetary Society Weekly Hangout: Being WISE about asteroids, comets, and brown dwarfs with Amy Mainzer

Join me on Thursday at noon Pacific / 3pm Eastern / 1900 UTC for the Planetary Society's weekly hangout! My guest this week will be NEOWISE principal investigator Amy Mainzer. NEOWISE is the asteroid-hunting portion of NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE, mission, which scanned the entire sky twice in infrared light before entering hibernation mode in 2011. We'll talk about new views of asteroids in our solar system and brown dwarfs outside it. We'll probably also talk about other recent small-body news, like the Russian meteor, recent Earth near-misses, comets PANSTARRS and ISON, and the one that's expected to zip past Mars next year.
